Nerdy Date Night Comic Books

33 Nerdy Date Ideas for the Perfect Geeky Night

Most couples whisper sweet nothings into each other’s ears once the lights get turned off.

Not us though!

My husband and I usually end up discussing psychological thrillers that we’ve been reading (we’ve devoured everything from Stephen King to Fiona Barton) or talking at great lengths about the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Heck, we have actually stayed up all night discussing whether the Illuminati and the New World Order will eventually take over the planet!

If that puts us in the category of socially-awkward, huge-glasses-adorning, sci-fi loving nerds, so be it!

While both of us do enjoy going out for picnics, candlelight dinners, and movie nights, there are times when our nerdier side demands more than the regular run-off-the-mill stuff.

That is when the below listed nerdy date ideas come to our rescue!

33 Nerdy Date Ideas

  1. A LARPing Date

Don’t know what that means?

Well, LARPing is short for Live Action Role Playing. This is a fun, fantasy game wherein you and your partner can act out different fictional scenarios in real life.

You can think of it as Dungeons and Dragons come to real life!

So if you’re looking to have some real fun, head to a LARP event near you.

Fun fact: You can choose a theme that interests you both – my hubby and I love the vampire and post-apocalyptic themes!

  1. Comic Con

Comic Cons are one of the greatest pop culture celebrations that are taking place across the globe. If you and your nerdy partner are big on comics, this can be a great idea for a day out.

If you wish to add a bit more excitement to this fun fiesta, consider going to the event dressed up as your favorite characters!

  1. Game Arcade

A trip to the arcade is an amazing way of satisfying your inner geeks, and having a blast at the same time. Whether you wish to compete with each other, or team up to complete a quest is entirely up to you.

And since many of these places offer amazing food, don’t forget to satisfy your taste buds too.

  1. Trivia Night

What better way to show off all those factoids that you have on your fingertips than by heading to a trivia night with your partner!

This is an awesome nerdy date idea, and it guarantees the two of you will end up having loads of fun as you compete against the other teams. It will be amusing to see them scratching their heads about how you guys know almost everything under the sun!

  1. Nerdy DIY Craft

Okay, I know you have loads of nerdy stuff lying in some corner of your house. Time to bring it all out!

First, you can use those trinkets and souvenirs to impress your partner (and maybe share stories behind each item), and then both of you can get down to create something interesting out of them.

  1. Binge-watch Geeky TV Shows

Whether you and your boo are sci-fi aficionados, horror show fans, or period drama enthusiasts, there is no dearth of geeky TV shows on Netflix!

So invite your date home, grab some pop-corn and fizzy drinks, and binge-watch a geeky show. To keep things cozy, add some throw pillows to the couch and snuggle up.

  1. Museum Hopping

There are few things that excite nerds as much as the chance to explore museums and learn new things. So the next time you guys wish to satisfy your want-to-learn-something-new cravings, just go museum hopping in your city!

And, no need to limit yourself to history and art; there are so many quirky museums across the world displaying everything from parasite specimens to fossilized poo!

  1. Chess. In the Park.

Just imagine this – you and your geeky S.O. sitting under the shade of a tree in a lovely park, a picnic basket filled with sandwiches, fruits, brie, olives, and ginger ales on the side, and a game of chess in front of you.

Heaven, is it not!?

  1. Trip to the Nursery

If you’re a geek and a plant lover, taking your partner to the local nursery can be a fantastic date idea. You can show off your knowledge about the different varieties of houseplants, and sneak in some lovey-dovey moments whilst you’re surrounded by all that lush foliage.

And while you’re at it, don’t miss the chance to impress your boo further by disclosing the Latin names of some of those green babies!

  1. Book Café

Ah! The sense of romance in spending a quiet afternoon in your darling’s company, sipping on coffee or sampling a decadent dessert, while your mind is actively engaged in a riveting read from your favorite author!

If you and your partner also believe (like us) that books and coffee go hand-in-hand, book cafés can be the ultimate hangout place for both of you.

  1. Attend a Lecture

I know – most couples would gawk at the idea of attending a lecture on a date, but then this is what makes the nerdier ones so special and unique!

If you and your partner love learning new nerdy things together, why not attend a lecture at the nearest college, or university. Chances are you’ll be discussing what you learnt for a long, long time to come.

  1. Board Games

Who doesn’t love board games! And since we’re talking about you nerdy couples here, you gotta know that your love for board games is a bit more than the regular couples.

The next time you geeky humans plan to get together, make it a board-game-date, and have fun re-living your childhood with your S.O.

  1. Treasure Hunt

This good old childhood game can be super romantic and fun – especially for geeky couples who love problem-solving.

If your partner’s idea of fun is solving riddles, you can use them as hints to make it even more fun. As for the gifts, you can head here for some cool ideas that are sure to impress your nerdy sweetheart.

  1. Geocaching

While treasure hunting is definitely great fun, Geocaching takes it to a whole new level. You can call it the grown-up version of the game – this is a high-tech treasure hunt that involves amazing outdoor adventure and GPS tracking.

You can look up Geocaching in your area, and select the type of adventure you and your partner feel excited about.

And of course, you need to download the Geocaching app.

  1. Video Games

Both of you might spend your evenings at home on your gaming console anyway, but doing it together is so much more fun!

You can choose any of those adventure games for couples where you get a chance to strengthen your bond by overcoming obstacles together. It is a great way to learn teamwork and effective communication.

  1. The Rubik’s Cube Challenge

I’ve yet to meet a nerd who has never solved a Rubik’s Cube in their life. So, there are great odds that both you and your partner already know how to unscramble the puzzle.

So why not take it a step further, and challenge each other to solve it in the minimum possible time!

  1. Lego Fun

Most dorky humans have a huge stash of Lego bricks gathering dust somewhere in their homes. Bring those out for your next date and build your favorite fandom characters (think Super Mario, Voltron, R2D2, etc…) with your partner.

If you’re feeling extra-creative, you could even create your own fantasy land with the bricks. Don’t forget to order some snacks for munching in-between!

  1. Go Paint Balling

If you two want a break from books, video games, and museums, and are up for some excitement and adventure, I’d suggest you go paint balling.

The adrenaline rush that you get from this game is epic, and you thoroughly enjoy every second of it as you dodge bullets and shoot opponents together. If you are feeling a tad less adventurous, check out laser tag for an equally exciting time.

  1. Click Nerdy Pictures

Nerds are some of the coolest people on the planet. To prove this, don a pair of thick-framed glasses and suspenders and do a cute, nerdy photoshoot with your partner.

If you’re not too interested in uploading the pictures on social media (they’re sure to get a lot of hearts if you do), you can create your very own private scrapbook with them to remind you of all the fun you had together.

  1. Make Your Own Comic Book

Being obsessed with comic books is still considered nerdy, though not as much as back in the 1980-90s. If you and your partner are huge fans of comic books, trying to create one can be a whole lot of fun.

Just imagine what a mind blowing experience it will be to pen down all those super thrilling scenarios you always had in your head. For some extra fun, you can make yourselves the Superheroes of your book!

  1. Stargaze

For this romantic date idea, all you need is a cozy blanket, some plush pillows, and a Bluetooth speaker. Just snuggle up with your partner in your backyard or on the roof deck with some nice, romantic music playing in the background.

As you both stargaze, try to spot constellations. This will add a fun element to the whole experience.

  1. Escape Room

Escape rooms have cropped up in almost every city and are a perfect way to spend some mentally stimulating time with your nerdy partner.

You can choose a theme that matches your tastes and get ready for an exciting time together (after all, it is all about putting your brains to test!).

  1. Learn a New Skill

Whether it is salsa dancing, pottery, a foreign language, or playing the guitar – learning a new skill becomes much easier and more enjoyable when you have your partner for company.

Look up classes near you and zero in on a skill that both of you are interested in learning.

  1. Paint Away

It doesn’t matter if both of you have never painted since 5th grade – just grab some paint and brushes, and create your favorite characters on canvas (Darth Vader, Harry Potter, Dr. Who, Yoda…).

If your masterpieces really turn out to be spectacular, you can consider framing them.

  1. Cook Together

Cooking together can also be a great bonding exercise for you guys. Just put your geeky brains together and try to create something in the kitchen that is a testament of your love for experimenting!

If you need some ideas, this might help.

  1. Run a Marathon

Yes, you should care about your physical health (and your mental health)!

Running a marathon with your partner can be an awesome idea if you wish to do something that gets your adrenaline pumping without being too adventurous.

  1. 3D Movie

Okay, this might be one of the most obvious nerdy date ideas, but it is also one of the most fun ones.

If you guys have a night free and wish to go for an impromptu date, heading out for a 3D movie might be your best bet.

  1. Trip to the Aquarium

A trip to the aquarium can be all kinds of amazing!

When my hubby suggested an Aquarium Date, I was a bit apprehensive, but it turned out to be so much fun that we actually ended up walking through the entire aquarium twice.

Enjoy looking at all of the colorful fish, sharks, and jellies while sneaking glances at each other in the tank’s reflection

  1. Poetry Reading

If you and your partner are suckers for poetry, reading out timeless love poems to each other would be a fantastic way of professing your love.

And if you’re feeling a bit more creative, you can try wooing thy beloved with your own romantic verses. This is a sure shot way of making them fall even deeper in love with you! Check out our list of romantic words for some inspiration.

  1. Go Bowling

I don’t really understand why some people associate bowling with nerds, but since they do, I’ve decided to add this one to the list.

The mister and I have lost count of how many date nights we’ve spent at the bowling alley. Add some great food to the mix, and it’s a recipe for a perfect night out.

  1. Themed Restaurant

Who said themed restaurants are only for kids – these places are literally heaven for nerdy couples as there is so much to talk about!

Also, ever since the rise of geekdom, multiple geek-themed restaurants have cropped up in every city that do not just offer exciting ambiance, but also yummy themed food.

  1. Take an Historical Train Tour

This one is for the history buffs who love to do anything that transports them to the bygone era.

Hop aboard any of these vintage trains, and get ready to enjoy a one-of-its-kind experience as you set out to explore your country in a way you’ve never done before!

  1. Watch a Play

I understand that not all nerds are into theaters and plays but if you are, taking your partner to watch a play is a great idea. However, make sure the theme of the play appeals to your geeky date’s interests too.

Also, do some research beforehand on the kind of reviews the play is getting. It can be an utterly painful experience to watch a shoddy play.
