My husband and I usually end up discussing psychological thrillers that we’ve been reading (we’ve devoured everything from Stephen King to Fiona Barton) or talking at great lengths about the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Heck, we have actually stayed up all night discussing whether the Illuminati and the New World Order will eventually take over the planet!
If that puts us in the category of socially-awkward, huge-glasses-adorning, sci-fi loving nerds, so be it!
While both of us do enjoy going out for picnics, candlelight dinners, and movie nights, there are times when our nerdier side demands more than the regular run-off-the-mill stuff.
That is when the below listed nerdy date ideas come to our rescue!
Don’t know what that means?
Well, LARPing is short for Live Action Role Playing. This is a fun, fantasy game wherein you and your partner can act out different fictional scenarios in real life.
You can think of it as Dungeons and Dragons come to real life!
So if you’re looking to have some real fun, head to a LARP event near you.
Fun fact: You can choose a theme that interests you both – my hubby and I love the vampire and post-apocalyptic themes!
Comic Cons are one of the greatest pop culture celebrations that are taking place across the globe. If you and your nerdy partner are big on comics, this can be a great idea for a day out.
If you wish to add a bit more excitement to this fun fiesta, consider going to the event dressed up as your favorite characters!
A trip to the arcade is an amazing way of satisfying your inner geeks, and having a blast at the same time. Whether you wish to compete with each other, or team up to complete a quest is entirely up to you.
And since many of these places offer amazing food, don’t forget to satisfy your taste buds too.
What better way to show off all those factoids that you have on your fingertips than by heading to a trivia night with your partner!
This is an awesome nerdy date idea, and it guarantees the two of you will end up having loads of fun as you compete against the other teams. It will be amusing to see them scratching their heads about how you guys know almost everything under the sun!
Okay, I know you have loads of nerdy stuff lying in some corner of your house. Time to bring it all out!
First, you can use those trinkets and souvenirs to impress your partner (and maybe share stories behind each item), and then both of you can get down to create something interesting out of them.
Whether you and your boo are sci-fi aficionados, horror show fans, or period drama enthusiasts, there is no dearth of geeky TV shows on Netflix!
So invite your date home, grab some pop-corn and fizzy drinks, and binge-watch a geeky show. To keep things cozy, add some throw pillows to the couch and snuggle up.
There are few things that excite nerds as much as the chance to explore museums and learn new things. So the next time you guys wish to satisfy your want-to-learn-something-new cravings, just go museum hopping in your city!
And, no need to limit yourself to history and art; there are so many quirky museums across the world displaying everything from parasite specimens to fossilized poo!
Just imagine this – you and your geeky S.O. sitting under the shade of a tree in a lovely park, a picnic basket filled with sandwiches, fruits, brie, olives, and ginger ales on the side, and a game of chess in front of you.
Heaven, is it not!?
If you’re a geek and a plant lover, taking your partner to the local nursery can be a fantastic date idea. You can show off your knowledge about the different varieties of houseplants, and sneak in some lovey-dovey moments whilst you’re surrounded by all that lush foliage.
And while you’re at it, don’t miss the chance to impress your boo further by disclosing the Latin names of some of those green babies!
Ah! The sense of romance in spending a quiet afternoon in your darling’s company, sipping on coffee or sampling a decadent dessert, while your mind is actively engaged in a riveting read from your favorite author!
If you and your partner also believe (like us) that books and coffee go hand-in-hand, book cafés can be the ultimate hangout place for both of you.
I know – most couples would gawk at the idea of attending a lecture on a date, but then this is what makes the nerdier ones so special and unique!
If you and your partner love learning new nerdy things together, why not attend a lecture at the nearest college, or university. Chances are you’ll be discussing what you learnt for a long, long time to come.
Who doesn’t love board games! And since we’re talking about you nerdy couples here, you gotta know that your love for board games is a bit more than the regular couples.
The next time you geeky humans plan to get together, make it a board-game-date, and have fun re-living your childhood with your S.O.
This good old childhood game can be super romantic and fun – especially for geeky couples who love problem-solving.
If your partner’s idea of fun is solving riddles, you can use them as hints to make it even more fun. As for the gifts, you can head here for some cool ideas that are sure to impress your nerdy sweetheart.
While treasure hunting is definitely great fun, Geocaching takes it to a whole new level. You can call it the grown-up version of the game – this is a high-tech treasure hunt that involves amazing outdoor adventure and GPS tracking.
You can look up Geocaching in your area, and select the type of adventure you and your partner feel excited about.
And of course, you need to download the Geocaching app.
Both of you might spend your evenings at home on your gaming console anyway, but doing it together is so much more fun!
You can choose any of those adventure games for couples where you get a chance to strengthen your bond by overcoming obstacles together. It is a great way to learn teamwork and effective communication.
I’ve yet to meet a nerd who has never solved a Rubik’s Cube in their life. So, there are great odds that both you and your partner already know how to unscramble the puzzle.
So why not take it a step further, and challenge each other to solve it in the minimum possible time!
Most dorky humans have a huge stash of Lego bricks gathering dust somewhere in their homes. Bring those out for your next date and build your favorite fandom characters (think Super Mario, Voltron, R2D2, etc…) with your partner.
If you’re feeling extra-creative, you could even create your own fantasy land with the bricks. Don’t forget to order some snacks for munching in-between!
If you two want a break from books, video games, and museums, and are up for some excitement and adventure, I’d suggest you go paint balling.
The adrenaline rush that you get from this game is epic, and you thoroughly enjoy every second of it as you dodge bullets and shoot opponents together. If you are feeling a tad less adventurous, check out laser tag for an equally exciting time.
Nerds are some of the coolest people on the planet. To prove this, don a pair of thick-framed glasses and suspenders and do a cute, nerdy photoshoot with your partner.
If you’re not too interested in uploading the pictures on social media (they’re sure to get a lot of hearts if you do), you can create your very own private scrapbook with them to remind you of all the fun you had together.
Being obsessed with comic books is still considered nerdy, though not as much as back in the 1980-90s. If you and your partner are huge fans of comic books, trying to create one can be a whole lot of fun.
Just imagine what a mind blowing experience it will be to pen down all those super thrilling scenarios you always had in your head. For some extra fun, you can make yourselves the Superheroes of your book!
For this romantic date idea, all you need is a cozy blanket, some plush pillows, and a Bluetooth speaker. Just snuggle up with your partner in your backyard or on the roof deck with some nice, romantic music playing in the background.
As you both stargaze, try to spot constellations. This will add a fun element to the whole experience.
Escape rooms have cropped up in almost every city and are a perfect way to spend some mentally stimulating time with your nerdy partner.
You can choose a theme that matches your tastes and get ready for an exciting time together (after all, it is all about putting your brains to test!).
Whether it is salsa dancing, pottery, a foreign language, or playing the guitar – learning a new skill becomes much easier and more enjoyable when you have your partner for company.
Look up classes near you and zero in on a skill that both of you are interested in learning.
It doesn’t matter if both of you have never painted since 5th grade – just grab some paint and brushes, and create your favorite characters on canvas (Darth Vader, Harry Potter, Dr. Who, Yoda…).
If your masterpieces really turn out to be spectacular, you can consider framing them.
Cooking together can also be a great bonding exercise for you guys. Just put your geeky brains together and try to create something in the kitchen that is a testament of your love for experimenting!
If you need some ideas, this might help.
Yes, you should care about your physical health (and your mental health)!
Running a marathon with your partner can be an awesome idea if you wish to do something that gets your adrenaline pumping without being too adventurous.
Okay, this might be one of the most obvious nerdy date ideas, but it is also one of the most fun ones.
If you guys have a night free and wish to go for an impromptu date, heading out for a 3D movie might be your best bet.
A trip to the aquarium can be all kinds of amazing!
When my hubby suggested an Aquarium Date, I was a bit apprehensive, but it turned out to be so much fun that we actually ended up walking through the entire aquarium twice.
Enjoy looking at all of the colorful fish, sharks, and jellies while sneaking glances at each other in the tank’s reflection
If you and your partner are suckers for poetry, reading out timeless love poems to each other would be a fantastic way of professing your love.
And if you’re feeling a bit more creative, you can try wooing thy beloved with your own romantic verses. This is a sure shot way of making them fall even deeper in love with you! Check out our list of romantic words for some inspiration.
I don’t really understand why some people associate bowling with nerds, but since they do, I’ve decided to add this one to the list.
The mister and I have lost count of how many date nights we’ve spent at the bowling alley. Add some great food to the mix, and it’s a recipe for a perfect night out.
Who said themed restaurants are only for kids – these places are literally heaven for nerdy couples as there is so much to talk about!
Also, ever since the rise of geekdom, multiple geek-themed restaurants have cropped up in every city that do not just offer exciting ambiance, but also yummy themed food.
This one is for the history buffs who love to do anything that transports them to the bygone era.
Hop aboard any of these vintage trains, and get ready to enjoy a one-of-its-kind experience as you set out to explore your country in a way you’ve never done before!
I understand that not all nerds are into theaters and plays but if you are, taking your partner to watch a play is a great idea. However, make sure the theme of the play appeals to your geeky date’s interests too.
Also, do some research beforehand on the kind of reviews the play is getting. It can be an utterly painful experience to watch a shoddy play.
]]>So, congratulations!
Just the fact that you’re here looking for third date ideas proves that you can already sense some kind of chemistry between the two of you.
There are great odds of the third date turning into somewhat of a milestone in a budding relationship – so understandably, you don’t want to mess this up at any cost.
I can fully understand your apprehensions, as well as your excitement (been there, done that), so don’t you worry – I have quite a few creative and fun third date ideas up my sleeve that will help you steer your relationship in the right direction.
But before that, let’s talk about the importance of the third date, and why it is imperative that it goes well if you truly wish to see the other person again.
Although the third date is not as nerve-wracking as the first one since both of you have reached a certain level of comfort after seeing each other a couple of times, it is much more important as it helps both of you decide if you’re compatible enough for the long-term.
So if the first date is casual, and the second one crucial, then the third date is definitely critical.
This is why most people believe that the third date is the date that determines whether their relationship aircraft takes off, or nose-dives.
For a lot of couples, the third date was when they started letting their guards down a bit.
This is because by the third date, you start feeling much more comfortable in each other’s company, so you can allow yourself to be more relaxed and less concerned about impressing your date.
Simply put, this is the time you start showing glimpses of your real self to your partner, and the need for any superficiality fades – no more agreeing to everything the other person is saying, no more excessive smiling, and no more faking interest in something that you actually hate doing.
So if you’ve told your date ‘I love bungee jumping too!’ when in reality you are terrified of heights, this is the time to come clean.
Or else, be prepared for an extremely awkward situation if they choose to ask you more about your bungee jumping adventures!
Of course, it would be even better to be upfront to begin with, so please do consider that the next time you go on your first date. There’s nothing wrong with being yourself to begin with. After all, this is one of the green lights to look for in your date.
If you’re anything like my husband and I, your third date won’t be confined to a café or some fancy restaurant.
There are tons of interesting things to do on your third date (we’ll get talking about them in just a bit) since you probably already know each other’s hobbies by now and can mutually decide on doing something that interests you both.
Getting involved in an activity that both of you enjoy is a great way of getting to know each other. If you make an effort to be honest and open in your discussions, the other person will also feel encouraged to be their real self with you.
And if you’re both hoping for something long-term, then this openness and honesty is extremely crucial right from the start.
The fact that you’re on your third date already proves that both of you are at least fairly compatible with each other.
The third date is the perfect time to go a step further, and determine if this compatibility is strong enough to get into the real deal.
A great way to ascertain that would be to notice how the conversation between the two of you is flowing. Does it feel too forced at times? Are there too many awkward pauses?
If yes, then maybe you need to sit back and reconsider if the other person is also looking for the same thing out of this relationship as you, or not.
If, on the other hand, your conversation seems to flow naturally, and you both genuinely seem to enjoy each other’s company, it might be the sign of a promising future.
Although there are no fixed rules regarding when to introduce a bit of intimacy into a relationship, the third date is considered a good start.
Please note that I said ‘a bit of intimacy’ here, so while upping the ante when it comes to getting flirty with each other is okay, I do not suggest going all the way (you know what I mean, right?).
This is because I feel that it is a good idea to wait until there is some more emotional investment into the relationship from both sides.
However, if you guys feel comfortable enough to take things to the next level, go ahead! Who knows you might just discover that you are much more compatible with each other than you previously believed!
As for what ‘a bit of intimacy’ means – well, I think swapping fleeting kisses for longer, lingering ones would be a good example.
Now, it is important to note here that just because it is your third date does not mean that you have to indulge in some kind of intimate act. If you guys are not yet feeling that spark in your relationship, it is best to wait and give it some time.
By the time the third date gets over, you both have a clear idea whether it is going to work or not.
If the chuckles get replaced by full-on belly laughs, if the goodbye kiss turns much more passionate than just a peck on the cheek, if both of you have already planned when and where to meet next, if you guys were smiling from ear-to-ear for the most part – these are all signs that your relationship is growing in the right direction.
Of course, it could also end up in a not-so-pleasant way. Maybe you guys discover that you don’t have too much in common or that you’re both expecting different things out of the relationship.
In either case, it is best to be open about how you feel and also encourage your partner to voice their opinion. Remember that honesty is the best policy when it comes to relationships. There’s nothing wrong in ending a relationship that is not mutually working.
We’ve already established that the third date is pretty crucial since it can mark the beginning of a new relationship. So it is best you give it the importance it deserves.
Here are a few third date goals you should aim for if you want things to turn serious between the two of you:
So now that you know pretty much everything there is to know about third dates, let us talk about some brilliant, out-of-the-box, third date ideas that will strengthen your budding relationship:
Probably your first and second dates also revolved around food, but hey, who doesn’t love food? Moreover, this time around you’ll not just be eating it, but learning how to cook it too.
So find a good cooking class, and learn to cook something that you both love eating but don’t know how to prepare. My husband and I learnt how to make sushi on our third date, and it is still one of the tastiest things he prepares (in case you’re wondering, I am culinarily challenged).
Cooking together can be an awesome team building experience and is a great way to keep the conversation flowing organically.
If you want to make the experience a little more intimate, you can invite your date home. Together you two can look something up on YouTube’s cooking channels, and then put your culinary skills to the test by recreating it in the kitchen.
This can be a wonderful idea if you had your first two dates in noisy cafes, or restaurants. Find a nature trail near your city, pack your lunch or grab some takeaway, and get lost in nature.
There is something about being in nature that is extremely therapeutic. Just being there in each other’s company as you hear the sounds of the wind rustling the leaves, or the waves crashing on the rocks can be very romantic.
Also, since it is just the two of you, you can take this as an opportunity to talk with each other to your heart’s content.
Another great third date idea is to play a sport together. You can mutually decide on something that both of you enjoy, and then choose a local park or community center to play the sport.
Just remember one thing though – being competitive is good, but not when the person you’re competing against is the one you wish to see again and possibly spend the rest of your life with.
Also, if one of you is not sporty enough, you can choose to get involved in some activity that is not too physically straining, but fun nevertheless – like maybe bowling or go-karting.
Visit the beach or just head to the nearest swimming pool. This way, you get to spend time together in the great outdoors, and also an opportunity to check each other out in swimsuits for the first time!
This definitely helps enhance the level of intimacy between the two of you.
When you’re just getting to know a person, spending time with them doing an activity that is supposed to bring out their kinder side can be a great way of understanding their true nature.
During our early days of dating, my husband and I decided to volunteer at the local animal shelter (it was his idea, by the way). The way those animals instantly recognized him and the love that he showered on them, spoke volumes about his compassionate nature.
Needless to say, that day I felt more attracted to him than ever before!
You can never go wrong with this one. A third date at the amusement park means you have tons of time to discover how adventurous your date is and how totally gorgeous they look when they’re laughing with abandon.
An added bonus is that you’ll have someone to keep you company as you wait for your turn in the queue. Also, you get to experience little intimate moments, like both of you holding hands tightly as the roller coaster plunges.
No matter where you live, you will have either the sea, a lake, or a river nearby. This gives you a fantastic opportunity to plan your third date on water.
You can simply rent a paddle boat, or if you’re up to splurging a bit, take your date on a yacht to spend some quality time together. There is something magical about being surrounded by serene water, with just your partner to keep you company.
A dance night is anything but boring, but you should do it only if both of you are comfortable enough with the idea. This is because dancing involves quite a bit of physical contact, especially if you have salsa on mind.
And if you truly want your third date to be special, I highly recommend skipping the noisy bars and taking your date to a restaurant that has a nice dance floor.
Dancing can be a terrific bonding experience, so make sure you’re focusing a little less on your moves and more on the person swinging and twirling with you.
Most probably, your first and second dates were at public places, so going for a long drive with your partner on the third date is a fantastic way of taking things forward.
It is as if you’re quietly letting each other know that you’re ready to meet privately.
You can head to some scenic point where you can watch the sunset together. Or maybe you can just sit under the stars for a while and indulge in some star-gazing. The entire experience will be utterly romantic, and you can easily round it off with some kind of physical intimacy (read, hugging and kissing).
Want to make your third date super sweet? Like, literally?
Well, head to your city’s popular candy store, and go candy tasting (yes, that is a thing, just like wine tasting)! Have fun trying out new, crazy flavors. I found out on one such date that chocolate and mushroom is a lethal combination!
If you’re not too big on candies, you can go to an ice-cream parlor and splurge on fancy ice-cream sundaes.
As a couple, you’re on your third date – so there should no longer be the pressure to constantly talk to each other. In fact, this is the ideal time to take a break from talking and indulge in some listening.
So a wonderful third date idea would be to enjoy live music, right from the comfort of your home. This would give you the much needed privacy, and would also help you bond over music.
You can head to Bandsintown to enjoy some amazing live music from your favorite artists.
By the third date, chances are you already know what your partner prefers when it comes to art. If your tastes match, you can plan a trip to an art gallery, or a museum.
Or maybe you can plan to attend a symphony orchestra concert, if that is what you prefer.
There is something deeply romantic about the sight of blooming flowers, so taking your partner to a plant nursery on the third date is a terrific idea. You can just roam about, smell the roses and the pansies, and admire the beautiful greens all around.
This will give you guys a chance to relax and chill in each other’s company and indulge in some casual chit-chat.
What’s more, you can also choose to adopt a houseplant that will remind you of the beautiful time spent together.
I know, I know – this third date idea is perhaps on every other list on the Internet, but you can surely make the best out of it by adding your own creative touches.
For instance, instead of doing the whole ‘Netflix and Chill’ routine, you can choose to watch a documentary on a topic that interests both of you (make sure it is not too heavy though). This will lead to mentally stimulating conversations, and will also help you get to know your partner better.
You could even start a trend and have a date based on a movie from each decade!
Every city has some hidden gems that most of the public has no clue about. Take out some time to find those cool places in your city, and then set out to explore them – on foot.
Believe me, acting like tourists in your own city is super fun. And when you have your potential someone special to keep you company, the fun quotient just multiplies.
We’d suggest looking for street performers to combine this idea with idea 11.
This might not be one of those conventional places to take your partner to on your third date, but I can guarantee it will be an experience both of you will fondly remember for years to come.
Also, shopping for veggies and fruits together gives you that “we’re a couple” kind of feel, and you can even opt to cook a meal together later in the day with all the fresh stuff you buy.
If it’s spring season, here are 54 other spring date ideas you could consider.
If you feel that you still don’t know as much about each other as you should by the third date, playing the question game can be a fun way to get your answers.
This will also give you a chance to find out how compatible you are with each other.
If you ask me, dinner dates are kind of overrated.
Breakfast dates can be ultra cool and fun; don’t believe anyone who tells you otherwise! This third date idea is particularly awesome for people who are early risers and who love to have a hearty breakfast (read choco-filled pancakes, waffles, French toast, bagels, cinnamon rolls, and avocado sandwiches) to kickstart their day.
Just like dinner dates, food crawls are also frequently over-done.
If both of you are coffeeholics who need to have their caffeine fix before they can take on the world, why not do a coffee shop crawl instead! You can mutually decide which coffee shop to start with and then spend the rest of the day hopping from one coffee-haven to another.
Pro Tip: Don’t forget to try out some lip-smacking pastries these coffee shops offer. And don’t spend too much time at one place; it is meant to be a coffee shop crawl, after all.
There are few things that can be as enjoyable as shopping – but who said anything about spending a dime!
You can choose to go to window shopping on your third date, and believe me, it can be just as much fun as the real thing. Head to your local flea market, or some fancy mall in the city – depending on your mood.
Act like tourists, cruise through the shops, and if you actually do find something that’s worth buying, I am not stopping you!
If both of you are dog parents, walking your darling pets together can be a terrific third date idea.
Not only will this give an opportunity to your furry buddies to get acquainted with each other, this will also help you two relax in each other’s company in a stress-free environment.
We have a few other dog date ideas you could try out too.
Nothing screams retro fun more than board games like Monopoly, or Snakes and Ladders, or Scrabble.
You can invite your date over for a board game night and make it a bit more special by keeping some snacks and fizzy drinks handy. Board games are an excellent way to relax and unwind – you will no longer feel the pressure to put your best foot forward.
In such a fun, carefree environment, conversations flow freely, and you get a chance to know your partner better.
Not everybody lives in a penthouse that offers a stunning view of the city’s skyline. But even if your apartment has a roof deck, that’s more than enough to enjoy some cozy time with your partner on the third date.
You can bring out your blankets and pillows, grab some comfort food, and get ready to chillax with your date as the sun prepares to bid adieu to the day, splattering the sky with beautiful hues of pink, orange, and red.
To make the moment even more magical, go get a small Bluetooth speaker and play some romantic music on it.
This is your third date, and by this time, you already have some idea of your partner’s likes and dislikes. Keeping that in mind, you can select the theme of the trivia night so that both of you can comfortably participate in it.
Pro Tip: Make sure you’re both on the same side if you want to see how good you are as a team.
Another great way to bond with your partner would be to introduce them to a skill that you’re good at.
It could be cooking, painting, pottery, playing the guitar, or even a video game that you’re excellent at. Show them how you do it, and then encourage them to try it out too. This will be a wonderful bonding experience, and will give your potential love interest a better understanding of who you are as a person.
Yes, I know it is just your third date, but isn’t it sensible to start making memories right from the very beginning?
So if you were too shy, or awkward to click pictures together on your first and second dates, go that extra mile on your third date, and hit the photo booth. To make things even more fun, you can choose to take some quirky props along.
If you’d rather something more professional looking, we have some great advice on how to host your own couples photoshoot without a photographer.
Third dates are less about impressing the other person, and more about getting comfortable in each other’s company. The above listed third date ideas can be a great way to build chemistry and help discover new things about your date.
Remember that most of the time, it is the thought and the effort you put into the date that matters more to your partner than the money you spend.

It’s the perfect time to take your date outdoors and soak up the sun. Your date can be someone you’re just starting to see or a long-term partner. Either way, these date ideas will bring you closer.
Smell the flowers and try new things together. Get outside and enjoy the warm air on your skin without feeling too hot. Take advantage of the spring time energy to learn, grow, and get creative with your date. It will be sure to bring you improve your relationship.
Beekeeping is a rising trend all over the world. Look for a local bee sanctuary and find out if you can volunteer, take a tour, or buy some honey. Spend some time with the bees and your date. This is a great date idea for couples that want to support the planet and have a sweet tooth.
There is no better way to celebrate spring than smelling the flowers. Go on a day trip to the nearest botanical gardens at their peak. Learn a little more about the plants that grow and thrive in your area.
Find a local animal shelter and see if you can volunteer for the day. Lots of shelters are open to one-time volunteers to walk dogs or play with their cats. There is growing research that spending time with “mans-best-friend” lowers stress and boosts our mood. This is an awesome idea for animal lovers that can’t commit to their own animal just yet.
Head to the closest lake in your area for a day date. Bring some snacks and lunch to share, walk around the lake, hire a boat, or pay to take out a paddleboat of your own. Whatever idea suits your date most––make it a sun-filled lake adventure.
Go to the library and have a scavenger hunt. Pick a word, for example, “spring.” Set the timer for 10-15 minutes. See how many books you can find with that word in the title! Take pictures of the books instead of pulling them out (so you don’t upset the librarians). Have fun with this idea, maybe the loser has to buy the winner coffee at the library.

Bird watching might sound like a retiree hobby, but it’s actually a super fun date idea. Take a trip to your local visitor center and purchase a bird guide. If you don’t have one, Google your nearest national park; they will usually have information on the types of bird you can find in your area. Read these tips to get started and spend the day watching birds, who are especially active during the spring.
There is almost always a 5k happening sometime in the spring. Find out the specific date and train with your significant other. Alternatively, you two can just walk it on the day. 5k’s are usually for a great cause, so the signup fee will benefit the community. If exercise isn’t your thing, go to the race instead and cheer people on.
What is the difference between a weed and a wildflower? Many people simply believe the difference is in the eye of the beholder. Go on a walk around your neighborhood or a nearby park and pick some wildflowers. Make a wildflower bouquet with your partner. This is a great idea for those on a budget. Before the flowers die, press a few of your favorites in a book to cherish the memories of the date.
Take time to visit an elderly home, even just a day visit can brighten a residence’s day. It is recommended to reach out in advance of your visit, so they have time to prepare. It is a sweet idea for couples who like to make authentic connections with strangers. If you love the experience, become an ongoing visitor through the spring.
Going to the farmers’ market is a great date idea. It is also a way to buy local and seasonal produce. But farmers markets usually sell much more than just fruits and veggies. Most markets have food trucks, coffee, and artisanal goods. If you have yet to visit the farmers’ market closest to you, start there. But if you are a frequent visitor, take a road-trip to another farmers’ market to broaden your horizons.

Many local theaters do productions in the spring and this is a great time to dress up for a show, make a date of it, and support your local artists. Slackline is an acrobatic skill that involves balancing on a small thin strap. The world’s greatest slackliners are pretty impressive, but you don’t have to be. Slacklining is mostly about balance and patience. All you need is to buy a slackline online and secure it between two trees to start your slacklining date. Keep the practice up all spring – learn and improve together.
Waking up at sunrise can be a daunting idea, but it’s always worth it. Prepare the night before with an easy, on-the-go breakfast and then wake up, make some coffee and take it all to go. Go somewhere beautiful to watch the spring sunrise and enjoy the chirp of the morning birds.
Do you have a favorite flower or love to see a particular color bloom in the spring? Why not savor that memory by pressing some flowers for a sweet date. It is a great craft idea for you and your partner. Pull some of your favorite flowers from the garden, press them in a book. Find a good quote to accompany the flowers. In a few weeks, frame the flowers and the quote.

Join the community in a park day clean-up. If you can’t find any community information on this, plan your own. Invite friends to join or go on a solo date. Even though the weather is heating up, it can still get chilly at night. See if you have any hot springs within reach for a nature date. If you do, make a day trip to the natural spa. Hot springs are a great way to detox the body and relax your mind. Enjoy spending the day in nature, letting go of stress with your partner.
There are always hidden gems in a local bookstore. Take your time to browse through all the books and see how they were previously loved. Enjoy the fruits of your labor at the park or in the backyard to continue the date.

Fly high in a hot air balloon. It is a pretty extravagant date idea, but I think riding in a hot air balloon is something everyone should do once in their life. The once in a lifetime experience will be even better in the spring, as the air is still cool and the world is in bloom.
With so many wonderful ideas to do this spring, you couldn’t possibly do them all. Make a spring bucket list with your partner to pick your top date ideas. Save the list and knock out more of them next year!

]]>But unfortunately, life is not all about going out and having fun – and 2020-2021 taught us that the hard way, didn’t it?
Now while all that pep talk about spending some quality time together sounds pleasing to the ears, when you’ve known each other since forever like my husband and me, the quality gets chucked out of the window, and all you have is time that you need to spend in each other’s company without trying to kill the other person (okay, the last bit was a bit of an exaggeration).
Long story short, passing time at home with your partner can sometimes be boring. Very boring. Even if you have a lifetime Netflix subscription.
However, it does not have to be that way.
The below listed 50+ creative ideas can truly spice up your time together and make you fall in love with each other a bit more, if such a thing is possible!
We all have tons of stuff in our homes that has either been discarded, or we’re unlikely to use again. Why not put it to some good use by looking up some DIY Best-Out-Of-Waste ideas and turning it into something pretty and useful.
Your bonding over the exercise will be the proverbial cherry on the cake!
When it comes to getting creative, what better place to start than in the kitchen!
The next time you feel bored, just unleash your inner Gordon Ramsay and get creative with whatever is available in your pantry.
Ok, this one is for couples who love solving puzzles together.
But a fun fact first: Did you know that less than 5.8% of the world’s population can actually claim to solve the Rubik’s Cube!
Now if you and your partner fall in that elite club, GREAT! You can still challenge each other with who finishes first.
If not, trying to figure out how to solve the Cube can be a fun and exciting way to spend time together (talking from experience here).

At the time I got married, pre-wedding photoshoots were not a thing. So whenever I come across photos of soon-to-be-hitched couples posing coyly for the camera, I feel a slight pang of jealously.
If you’re anything like me, you would absolutely LOVE the idea of enjoying a photoshoot with your partner, and creating frame-worthy memories in the process.
Gardening is a great way to not just relax your mind, but also to bond with each other. That feeling of watching a life grow and blossom that you both planted and nurtured together cannot be put into words.
We all love to travel, so why not make a bucket list of all the places that both of you want to visit! When the conversation steers towards places like Iceland or Tahiti, it is bound to get super interesting and fun.
Here is a list of some mind-blowingly gorgeous places that everyone MUST visit in their lifetime.
Now while you are at it, just zero in on a particular place that you both are dying to visit and start planning for it. You wouldn’t even notice the time fly by as you start talking about what local attractions you’d love to see, what is the right time to travel, what clothes you’d need, or how much money you’d need to set aside.
A word of caution: the last one has a way of putting a damper on your spirits.
Is there a movie that both of you love? Then why not indulge in some role-playing? You both can choose the characters you want to play and then act out your favorite scenes from the movie. Trust me, this is super fun!
Pro Tip: Let your imagination run wild and improvise the dialogs a bit to put your partner in a spot. It would be extremely fun to see how they react to the change in dialog.
For some extra fun, you can also choose to dress up as the character you’re playing.
Let’s admit this – most of us have neither the time nor the extra cash to indulge in salon spas every now and then. So it is a great idea to fake the whole thing – right in the comfort and privacy of your own bathroom.
Or better still, why not get a bit creative, and turn your safe haven into an Airbnb for a night?
Please note that planning for this special getaway will go a long way in making it a memorable experience for both of you. So don’t forget to stock up on some scented candles, massage oils, and bath bombs.
Who said that you have to head to the nearest park or the beach for a fun picnic? You can bring all that picnic fun right into your backyard – all you need is a blanket, some throw pillows, snacks and drinks, and your someone special.
To add a cozy touch to your backyard picnic, you can choose to decorate your backyard with soft lights.
I know this one does not sound like much fun, but it can be a fantastic way to kill boredom.
Rearranging your cupboards together will not just help you get rid of the extra stuff that you no longer need (and give your cupboards some breathing space), it can also throw up wonderful surprises like a long-forgotten souvenir or a cute photograph that will take you guys down the memory lane.
Let me guess – some nights, both of you have your dinner (mostly take-away or reheated leftovers) plopped on the sofa or table in front of the television.
If my guess is correct, you are not alone – this is what a lot of us do!
But every once in a while, it feels great to break the monotony and create a fancy, restaurant-like experience right at home.
So just take out that table cloth, some scented candles, your fine chinaware, and get ready to woo your partner with a romantic, candle-light dinner with soft music playing in the background.
Oh, and don’t forget to dress appropriately for the occasion.
I’m sure all of us have pictures of special moments stored away somewhere. It is time to get those out!
There are tons of apps available both on Google and Apple Play Stores that allow you to create wonderful videos using your favorite pictures. You can edit each image, add text, insert some background music, and even add effects to the photos.
And you don’t even need any special skills to do all of this. VivaVideo and InShot are two awesome apps that you can use to make lovely videos of your special moments.

There are studies that prove that working out with a partner is better and more beneficial. So when you have too much extra time on your hands, just grab your partner and get your bodies moving by trying out some fun, innovative workouts.
If you need some ideas, head here.
Bring out those essential oils and aromatic candles, and give each other a long, relaxing massage. This can be particularly fun on weekends when all you need to do is relax and unwind.
The only glitch with this idea is that if your partner is anything like my husband, there are high chances they will doze off while enjoying the massage, leaving you waiting endlessly for your turn. *eye roll*
Yes, both of you live under the same roof, sleep on the same bed, use the same bathroom – but when was the last time you really talked to each other? Like, some serious heart-to-heart stuff?
Struggling to remember?
Well, I seriously suggest you guys to play a game like Truth or Dare, or maybe Never Have I Ever. You’d be surprised at all the new things you’ll learn about each other, and the conversation might keep flowing all through the night! Just cater the questions to your tastes.
It is said that when you’re feeling bored, dance like no one’s watching.
With apps like TikTok that bring some amazing viral dance routines to your smartphone, you can have loads of fun with your partner trying out some cool, funky moves – even if you have two left feet!
Just like you did when you were kids (perhaps not with each other, but you get the idea, right?)
I can’t begin to describe how much fun it is when you raise your fluffy pillows high and charge at each other like warriors – only there are no war cries but shrieks of laughter that can ring so loud that your neighbors will wonder what you guys are up to!
This is another fun game from your childhood that you can add some spice to in order to make it more fun for you and your partner.
You can personalize the clues by writing something like ‘Where we shared our first kiss’ instead of ‘On the living room couch’, and even consider leaving small gifts along with the clues.
No amount of text messages, emails, or e-cards can replace the charm of a letter that has been handwritten with love by your partner, especially for you.
So it is a great idea to bring out that long-forgotten letter pad and get started. Let your partner know how much they mean to you; write down what it is that still makes you fall crazily in love with them.
You can even take this opportunity to say sorry for something that you did and never apologized for. And don’t blame me if one, or both of you, end up teary-eyed after reading each other’s heartfelt notes!
Every couple has a few songs that remind them of some special moments that they’ve shared over the years. Music, as it is, is incredibly romantic. So when you get down to creating your very own personalized playlist, you’re sure to relive a lot of those memories and get all mushy and cuddly.
There are tons of online relationship tests on the internet that tell you everything from what kind of couple you are to how well you know each other.
You can take those tests for some giggles and laughs – just don’t get too serious about the results!
Probably the best way to brighten up your day (or night) is to laugh heartily. And with so many classic, rib-ticklingly funny stand-up comedy acts on YouTube, HBO, Netflix, and Amazon Prime, you can enjoy your daily dose of laughter with your partner whenever you want.
Bonding with each other is fine, but bonding with each other’s family is also pretty cool.
Most of us don’t realize this, but when we make an effort to get along with our partner’s family, or people that they’re close to, it really makes our someone special feel even more special.
So the next time you feel you’ve run out of ideas of things to do together, just give each other’s family a call. Believe me, you’ll have a great time later on discussing all the things that you talked about over the phone.
It may look deceptively simple, but once you get down to drawing one another, you’ll probably understand how poor your artistic skills are!
But all the giggles and laughs that are sure to follow will make it worth the effort.
There are so many travel vlogs uploaded on YouTube for almost every worth visiting place on the planet. If both of you are travel enthusiasts, you’d have loads of fun exploring interesting locations – right from the picturesque beaches of the Maldives to the breathtakingly gorgeous Himalayas.
This one is going to be super fun! On days you’ve run out of ideas to keep yourselves entertained, just bring out your childhood photo albums. Those pictures have the power to make you go from ‘awww…’ to ‘What was I (or mom) thinking?’ in a matter of seconds!
When you share those sometimes-funny-sometimes-embarrassing memories with your partner, you’ll just double the fun.
What better way to spend some quality time together than by deciding to jazz up the space that both of you call home! If the thought of redecorating the entire place seems too daunting, you can start with a single room that you’ve been thinking of redoing for a while.
For some amazing DIY room décor ideas, you can head here. You can also find loads of fun and budget-friendly room décor ideas on Pinterest.

In this highly globalized world, the more languages you know, the better it is. Learning a new language with your partner or spouse has its own perks – you both bond beautifully as you learn new things, make mistakes, and encourage one another along the way.
An added bonus: Both of you will learn a new way of saying I Love You, and also a secret way of saying stuff when other people are around (just make sure those other people don’t already know the language!).
For all of those who’re going ‘But that is all that we do together, anyway!’ – this one is with a twist! A little bit of planning before you embark on your binge-watching spree goes a long way towards making the whole experience much more enjoyable.
So before you plop down on the couch and switch on the TV, get hold of some pop-corn and fizzy drinks, dim the lights, and grab some extra cushions for extra-comfort. Oh, and getting a bit cuddly and cozy is highly recommended too!
Singing can be a great stress reliever, especially after a long day at work. So if you’re both a little tired and don’t feel like putting in some extra effort, but are looking to have a little fun nevertheless, having a karaoke night at home is an awesome idea.
It is sure to lift up your spirits and maybe, just maybe, you’ll end up singing and dancing the night away!
To break the monotony of everyday life, and to understand your partner at a much deeper level, it is a great idea to ask them some thoughtful questions about your love life.
This simple activity will not just strengthen your bond, but it will also bring back that spark into your lives.
While it may not compare to meeting your friends in person, hosting a virtual Zoom party can be super fun, nevertheless.
So avail this opportunity to showcase how innovative you and your partner are, and get ready to entertain your friends by making them play these fantastic fun games.
Okay, this one is a little pretend-game. You have to pretend that you and your boo are miles apart (although you might be sitting in adjacent rooms), and video call each other. You’d be surprised at how difficult it would be to suppress those coy smiles and giddy laughter, and how beautifully the conversation will flow.
As they say, distance makes the heart grow fonder…
Indulging in activities with your partner that promote mindfulness can be extremely relaxing and refreshing. You can plan a detox day wherein you guys practice meditation, perform yoga asanas, drink veggie smoothies/herbal teas, eat salads, and practice mindfulness exercises.
I can promise that you’ll feel completely rejuvenated and ready to take on the world the next day.
Two people lying on their backs in their backyard, lovingly holding hands, gazing up at the star studded sky, a faint smile gracing their lips – sounds super romantic, does it not?
All you need is a plush mattress, comforters, and some pillows (or simply a sleeping bag or blanket), and both of you can enjoy a romantic stargazing session right in your backyard. Falling asleep under the stars with your significant other is a beautiful experience that you’re sure to cherish for years to come.
Whenever you’re having a dull time, just go for a game of Charades. This is a classic game that NEVER fails to entertain, whether you’re having a party at home, or whether it is just the two of you.
It is also an excellent way to ascertain how great an actor you are (or not).
People keep telling you to keep your inner child alive – and this fun activity with your partner will help you do just that.
The next weekend you two have way too much time on your hands and no idea what to do, go for a water balloon fight in your backyard. With all that running, shouting, and hysterical laughing, you’re sure to have a whale of a time!
Just look for environmentally friendly water balloons (or alternatives) and dispose of them properly afterwards.
All of us love to enjoy beautiful experiences with our loved ones, but when it comes to documenting those memories, we often get too lazy to give it much thought.
Creating a scrapbook for all those lovely moments – whether they are cute pictures of your last vacation, airplane tickets from your honeymoon, or some small souvenirs that you’ve collected over time – is a fantastic idea to take a trip down the memory lane and relive those memories.
Here are some wonderful ideas that can help you create a magnificent scrapbook.

I have huge sweet tooth, and so does my hubby dearest, so this is something that we do way too often for our own good. We order an assortment of desserts from our favorite hangouts, and then just give in to our sweet cravings.
Just to make things a little more spicy, I blindfold my husband and then ask him to guess what dessert I’m feeding him. The right answer earns him a kiss, and a wrong one…well, another kiss (it’s a dessert night, after all)!
Bring out your competitive side and play some fun two-player board games with your sweetheart. For a more relaxed environment (in case you two get a tad too competitive), you can get some snacks to binge on while playing.
Also, it is advisable to keep your phones away for minimal distraction.
Yes, you both know almost everything about each other. Still, doing each other’s birth charts and looking up on the Internet what exactly your sun, moon and rising signs mean can be a lot of fun.
This interesting activity might also reveal how compatible both of you are, though how seriously you want to take it depends only on you!
Creating a blog is super easy these days with platforms like WordPress that are extremely user-friendly. Just think of a topic that both of you are passionate about and blog away!
You’ll soon discover that when you both work as a team, the outcome can be pretty mindblowing.
This might sound a bit crazy, but it is sure to trigger a laugh riot. The partner whose make-up is getting done is only allowed to see the mirror once they are fully ready.
A word of caution though: If you’re not too sure of your partner’s mascara-applying skills, it is best to avoid using that thing. I learned this the hard way.
Painting can be deeply cathartic and relaxing, and is a perfect way to spend time together. Just order in the supplies that you’ll need, and pick a room that can do with a fresh paint on the walls. Once everything is set, bring out your inner artist and get as creative as you want.
Pinterest has some great ideas when it comes to giving your room a makeover with fresh paint.

Books are my refuge whenever I wish to run from reality, and immerse myself in a world of fantasy where there are no deadlines to be met, no angry boss breathing down my neck, and no worries about what to cook for dinner.
My husband, however, is not as passionate about reading – but we still do plan book dates where we end up listening to audiobooks on relationships, travel, food, and occasionally fiction too.
The riveting discussions that follow these reading, or rather listening, sessions help us connect with each other on a much deeper level.
YouTube challenges are all the rage these days, so why should you guys be left behind?
These challenges can range from pretty cool and fun to downright bizarre, so it is best to choose them wisely – unless of course, the thought of ingesting Ghost Pepper excites you (yes, there is a challenge that requires challengers to chow down one of the hottest peppers on the planet!).
Let’s admit this – every home has some stuff that needs fixing, but either you are too busy or too lazy to do them.
I know it does not sound like too much fun, but when both of you get together to fix all that broken stuff in your home, you’ll not even realize how quickly the time will pass. And the sense of accomplishment that you’ll get later on will be incredible.
Sometimes, it is okay to rewind time and get back to being teenagers! You can take turns at giving prank calls to your mutual friends, and if they guess who you are, you lose.
It is advisable to keep it fun and light though – you don’t want your friends to call the police because they actually believe that their neighbor’s got kidnapped!
Last, but definitely not the least, you can choose to take some time out to help those who are less fortunate than you.
It is a good idea to look up charities on the Internet that are working for a cause that is close to your hearts. You can offer them your support, either through volunteering or financial help, and do your bit to make this world a better place to live in.
To Sum Up…
So you see, there are tons of exciting things you can do with your someone special without having to step outdoors at all.
These unique ideas will not just bring back that spark into your relationship, they might also a reveal a new side to your partner that you probably weren’t aware of before (and I mean this in a good way!).

]]>However, annual holidays with traditional themes can only go so far. Since we’ve got human obligations to attend to for the rest of the day, we can’t go all-in on the doggie fun. So, we’ve adopted a new annual tradition that focuses more on the pup so we can have fun celebrating together. We’ve even been able to get some friends in on the celebrations for more fun with their pups as well.
Our favorite new holiday to celebrate together is Wolfenoot. A few years ago, a 7-year-old boy in New Zealand made up a holiday that has since gained traction. He wanted to have a day set aside to celebrate dogs and the people who love them. His mom made a post about it on Facebook, and that’s how a new international dog-themed holiday was born.
According to “tradition,” there are a few key elements to a proper Wolfenoot celebration. However, the youngster and his mom seem to agree that any celebration is acceptable if it keeps with the spirit of the holiday. The official holiday is on November 23rd every year – the creator has been pretty clear about that.
Some common elements of a Wolfenoot celebration include:
My husband and I were on board for this holiday immediately. We love our pup, and we love doing new things together. So this was perfect! We already celebrate Christmas together and cook her a special dinner on her adoptiversary, so Wolfenoot was a great addition.
The first year, we kept it pretty simple. We told a few friends about the new holiday, and we set up a play-date for all of our dogs at the local dog park. Everyone met at the dog park and brought dog-friendly snacks to share when the pups were done playing. All of the humans just hung out together and kept an eye on our furry children while they played. When they were done playing, we migrated back to the parking lot for snacks.
Everyone agreed: all of the dogs passed out in the car on the ride home. They had a blast! It was super fun for everyone involved, so we made it an annual tradition.
Last year, we decided to raise the bar a little bit. We both like to exercise, and our dog LOVES running. We’re part of a local running group (my husband walks, I jog, and our dog wishes that her humans were faster). So, we set up a running event with the club to celebrate Wolfenoot. We hosted a dog-themed run followed by pet-approved snacks for the pups and libations for the humans. Everyone also chipped in $5 as a donation to our local animal shelter.
Again, the dogs had a ton of fun and were completely worn out by the end of the event. All of the people who attended had a great time together as well. My husband and I loved hosting it and plan to do it again next year.
Creating a doggie date doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, it should be a lot of fun and should bring you and your significant other closer together as a result. Here are a few tips to make Wolfenoot (and any doggie date) fun while celebrating with your partner and your doggo.
Let us know in the comments below how if you decided to partake in Wolfenoot and any tips you have for making doggie dates fun. If you would like other doggie date ideas, check out this one on hosting a dog fashion show!

]]>What does going on a date look like to you? Dating can look different for everyone, and there are endless possibilities of what you can do for your dates. We’ve previously talked about how to do a date at home when the kids are there. But today we’re going to change it up a bit and talk about how to date and create experiences for relationship growth for your whole family. Whether it’s a traditional family date night, a family date night at home, or an entire day filled with an event or outing, focusing on building relationships with your kids and your partner during this time can elevate the entire experience!
We all know that chaos, frustration, and whining can be a part of any activity with our kids. We also know that the happiness, joy, excitement, and growth of spending time with our kids is worth those few difficult moments that often happen during any planned family activity.
Here are a few questions to consider when thinking about family date nights:
When we’re all together as a family, focusing on growing the various relationships within a family unit instead of checking off boxes for what “needs” to happen during the time together can foster an environment and opportunity for tender nurturing and growth. When we stop trying to control the outcome of how we see the activity going and start “rolling with the punches,” it may turn out even better than we could have imagined! Even if things go downhill, the experience can still be a fun memory. Here’s an example.
I had the great idea to visit the Las Vegas Speedway Christmas Lights during our Thanksgiving trip to Las Vegas. It sounded like a really fun thing to do with our six kids. And it was…. eventually. See, we went the day after Thanksgiving. And apparently, so did the rest of everyone in Las Vegas. We got in the line in our car, but we didn’t know how far up the entrance gate was. By the time we had waited an hour, we didn’t dare leave the line because we had already invested that time.
Well… FOUR HOURS later, it was finally our turn to drive through the lights. We all look back on this experience and laugh – it was pretty rough being in the car unprepared for four hours. But it’s a memory we all enjoy looking back on because of the humor and ridiculousness involved! We had some great family conversations, listened to some good music, and created a lifelong memory.

We ALL crave one-on-one attention. As adults, this may be in the form of attention from our partner, parents, siblings, or friends. Kids are no exception to this desire! While enjoying your family date, be aware of circumstances that you could be purposeful in spending one-on-one time. Maybe one parent needs to go get tickets at the zoo. Take one of your children with you. Hold their hand. Ask them a personal question. Look them in their eyes. Tell them you enjoy the time with them, even if it’s only five minutes. There will most likely be many of these small opportunities to take advantage of if you look for them!
As a couple, look for these opportunities, too! Make sure to sit next to each other and hold hands if you’re at a show. Sneak in the little touches – a hand on your partner’s back or a side hug here and there. It all makes a difference, especially if you’re both choosing to notice these little things your partner is making an effort to do during your activity. Always remember – everything you do with intention creates an opportunity for growth.
No matter what your kids’ ages, everyone can participate in these chats. Maybe this is at the dinner table or in the car after your family date. Ask each person to name what they enjoyed most about the date. Ask what they would enjoy doing as your next family date. If your kids are older, ask for more in-depth conversations. If you saw a show, ask about the specific characters or discuss the theme. Talk about how it relates or does not relate to your lives now. Use the opportunity to spark conversation and see where it leads!

We’re all aware that going tech-free for the activity may be a big ask, but it’s worth it to get the big reward of a positive family experience! This includes parents, too!! Setting the example definitely makes the expectation for the kids to be tech-free seem more “fair” in their eyes. You’ll naturally be more invested, too! Purposefully taking in your experience without the distraction of your phone helps keep you present in what you’re doing. Kids notice when we’re on our phones. Make the time with your kids and partner the priority over all else.
As an added bonus, as much fun as it is to share your experience on social media, it can be even MORE meaningful not to. Creating a family experience solely for the purpose of the experience and NOT for the purpose of sharing makes your event feel more personal. By putting away the distractions, you’re automatically more available for conversations, intentional bonding, and more.
If you’re stuck on date ideas to do with the whole family, here are a few easy options to get you started!

]]>Sometimes though, you might want something other than just bringing your dog out to a brewery or coffee shop to hang out. Sure, spending a nice afternoon outside together with your doggo is nice, but it can get a little mundane. If you’ve already checked out the local dog-friendly parks, trails, and restaurants, it’s time for more doggie date ideas.
Though some dogs won’t tolerate wearing clothing, others love the attention! If your pup will let you dress them up, hosting a doggie fashion show can be a lot of fun.
If you want to make this a special event just for you and your significant other, a costumed photoshoot at home is always a good time. You can either dress to match your pets and make a whole production out of it, or you can keep the pups as the stars of the show. Being the photographers and costume designers can be plenty of fun without dressing up too.
If a group date sounds more fun, you could get a few friends together to parade with their pups. Encourage everyone to dress up and have their dogs don their best costumes. This is a great way to show off all of the creativity, let the dogs have some fun, and enjoy a unique afternoon together.
For some costume inspirations worthy of Mardi Gras itself, check out the Mystic Krewe of Barkus. Each year during one of the biggest Mardi Gras weekends, New Orleans boasts a parade for dogs and the people who love them. Complete with costumed dogs, decorated wagons, and pup-approved throws, this parade has it all. For some great pics, check out the official Mystic Krewe of Barkus Instagram page.
Remember that dog costumes don’t have to be super tricky. If the goal here is having fun with your partner and your dog, don’t make it too complicated. Keep the costume intricate enough to entertain you both while making it, but don’t make it so difficult that it gets annoying. For the doggo, keep some treats handy for bribery. Even if your dog doesn’t love the idea of wearing a costume, you can probably convince them with treats.
To make your date night fun and interesting, decide on the costume and design it together.
If you want to keep the evening super simple, just use a bandana and eye patch for an easy pirate costume. Then toss on a pirate-themed movie and tell all your best pirate jokes.
If you’re feeling a little more crafty, bust out the hot glue gun and sequins and create a costume that’ll really pop! While you’re at it, design yourselves a couple of outfits that will make your photos dazzle. If you need some ideas on pup-tastic costume setups, check out the Indestructibles craft article on dog costumes or check out the YouTube videos for additional instructions and inspiration.
Fortunately, you can make your doggie fashion show as calm or as bold as you want it to be. You can always head back to the basic dog-friendly date locations again later. Make this event fun and memorable for you, your partner, and your doggo.

]]>In the chaos of everyday life, it’s easy to forget to nurture our souls – and our spiritual connection – to our partners. The next time that you’re looking for a new date idea, try one of these adventures, designed to challenge your spirit.
No two people or two relationships are exactly the same, and you may need to explore different possibilities before finding the right soulful dates for you.
There’s a reason all the best couples’ retreats are set in the midst of natural beauty. Let yourself be awed by the world, sharing that wonder with your date or long-term partner.
Some people have to travel further in order to escape the light pollution, so plan your night in advance. Take blankets and food for a light meal or dessert. Lie back and relax, gazing up at the night sky.
It’s not quite the same, but you can get a little starlight in your lives during the daytime as well. Head to the nearest planetarium for an afternoon date. You’ll have to picnic before or after, but you can incorporate this element as well.
The other end of the day can be just as magical. Choose your vantage carefully, and make sure you get there in time to watch the sun come over the horizon.
You can approach the sunrise from either end, but if you stay up all night, you might find yourselves wanting to get the whole experience over with. I’d suggest waking early and packing a thermos of coffee… a very big thermos.

Really get away from it all, and spend some quality time together in the woods. Camping comes in all varieties these days – from backpacking through the wilderness to glamping at a luxury site. So even indoorsy couples can pick a level that agrees with them.
Unless your version of romance involves trout for breakfast and sleeping under the stars, make your excursion more pleasant with the right gear for twosomes, including an air mattress and (properly stored) munchables.
Don’t overthink your next adventure – just make room for it. Block out an afternoon for a strenuous hike or a leisurely stroll.
If you’re the fit and outdoorsy type, you can explore a new trail or even get in some rock climbing. The rest of us might prefer to take an easier path. Maybe even just a walk around the park, talking comfortably, or sharing the silence.
You can make the outing more exciting by going someplace that you’ve never been before. Check out local botanical gardens or out-of-the-way overlooks.
Or go ahead and fry ‘em up if you’ve got the skills! But fishing is really just an excuse to get out on the water and experience a little peace.
Whether spiritual maintenance is a regular part of your life or not, you can reinvigorate your own practice and reconnect by trying something new. “Failure” can be just as valuable as success, giving you something to laugh about together.
You don’t have to be bendy to enjoy and benefit from yoga. There’s an array of yoga classes you could enjoy together, but why not practice supporting one another with couples’ yoga? Limber up, tone those muscles, and nurture your bond all at once.
Open your mind to something new. Look up nearby classes on aromatherapy, crystals, or circling. You might discover a new interest – or you might gain a fun, new story to tell your friends.
Couple’s meditation serves to enhance intimacy and security. You can listen to a guide or research best practices and topics. If you find that it works for you, go ahead and integrate it into your relationship hygiene.
You don’t have to be a believer to enjoy the experience. If you get nothing else out of it, the novelty factor can be fun. But you may find yourself unexpectedly entranced. They could have interesting things to say about your aura or your future.
Heck, even if the psychic just cold-reads you, you can get a sense of the message and energy you’re putting out into the world, either singly or together.

The field isn’t always greener – or more exciting – on the other side. Particularly in these trying times, travel may not always be an option, but that doesn’t mean you can’t feed your soul’s need for exploration.
What nearby attractions have you neglected over the years? Whether it’s a cathedral or the world’s largest ball of twine, odds are that there’s a nearby point of interest. Find a place in your city to tour together.
You can also explore something that is culturally foreign in your own backyard. Head to the closest Koreatown or Little Italy for a full day of food, shopping, and touring.
Find a cultural or religious event nearby. Celebrate Chinese New Year, the Day of the Dead, or Midsummer in proper Scandinavian fashion. Sure, there are the blockbuster festivals, but it can be just as much fun to find that little Ukranian fair that nobody knows about.

We all have those fleeting ideas or inclinations: “Oh, that sounds interesting,” or “I wonder what [x] would be like with my partner.”
Start writing those down. You can keep a list or journal and refer to it as opportunities arise. Even better, share that document. This joint brainstorming will help keep your souls connected when busy lives interfere.

]]>Being a part of a relationship that is steadily growing and being tended to is one of the most satisfying human experiences. By living mindfully and putting in the intentional time, thought, practice, and energy into building relationships, we can achieve that satisfaction. There are endless things to do to strengthen your marriage or relationship. Choosing approaches that best fit your relationship goals will ensure the growth your partner and you are seeking and working towards.
Reading together as a couple can be an extremely positive relationship-building tool. We’re going to examine three unexpected reasons reading together can be your new relationship obsession and how you can get the most from your experiences reading together.
For the purpose of what we’re discussing today, what you’re reading together is up to you! This is not intended to be geared towards reading relationship or self-help books. These tips are geared towards reading whatever you choose as a couple. This could be novels, biographies, non-fiction, magazines, newspapers, scriptures – whatever works for YOUR relationship!

While silence can be golden at times, other times you may find a lull in your conversations with your partner even though you’d like the engagement. Choosing a book or article to read together creates a natural variety of topics to discuss as a partnership. Nothing is off-limits or “wrong” here. Maybe reading created a new train of thought completely unrelated to the book. That train of thought is still worth discussing with your partner.
Let’s examine what some conversation topics based on your reading can be. For this example, we’ll say that you’ve chosen to read a novel together. Here are some topics of conversation you can have as a couple based on what you’re reading.

In relationships, we often fall into patterns, we create habits, and we repeat cycles. This isn’t intended to be a negative observation. People are drawn to consistency for many reasons, but when we want to experience a surge of growth in our relationships, a unique experience needs to occur to initiate that surge. Reading together can be that spark.
When we choose to commit to our partner, it’s not because we know EVERYTHING there is to know about them. It’s more because we are intrigued by learning more about what makes them, well, them. Connecting on an intellectual level is one way to explore and experience our partner in new ways. Reading together can pull out our partner’s intellectual characteristics while simultaneously pulling out our own.
When we read, we are stimulating our thoughts. When we observe and discuss our thoughts, we are stimulating our minds even more. Doing this together can be a very connecting experience. Engaging in conversations beyond the plot of a story can open critical thinking pathways that you usually don’t explore together.
Gaining an understanding of how your partner gets from point A, to point B, to point C, and so-on in a thought process can help you understand your partner more profoundly. Regularly engaging in these conversations can help you establish patterns in the way your partner thinks and perceives the world; therefore, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of your partner.
You don’t have to agree on your thoughts and observations about what you’re reading. In fact, disagreements over opinions can spur great intellectual conversations that can also lead to a sense of closeness. After all, part of relationships is learning how to disagree effectively.
According to Psychology Today, there is even scientific research behind being attracted to intellectual experiences. So when your husband is analytically conversing with you about his thoughts on what you’re reading, you may find that really sexy. Or when your girlfriend is explaining how something she read has enlightened her in a new way, she may be especially hot to you during that moment. It’s normal. And it’s another benefit of reading together
When you read together, you’re sharing something that’s just “yours.” Chances of your friends or family reading the exact same media at the same time as you are pretty low. Having an experience that is personal to the two of you creates a bond. It’s almost like a “secret” between the two of you, even though it’s something that does not require being secretive. It feels special to engage in an activity that the two of you have decided to participate in together.

I had a desire to write on this topic because of the many positive experiences I’ve had reading with my partner. At the beginning of our relationship, we read The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. For us, we read independently and then discuss what we read together. Some couples may choose to read aloud to each other, and that would work great too!
Reading this particular book was a very personal experience for us. The main theme and lessons we learned from this book are based on the concept of what love is. At least that’s what we pulled from the pages when we read it! I say it was about love because that’s what we wanted it to be about, but I’m positive there are other amazing themes in there as well. In fact, I’ve been itching to read it again to see what I missed the first time.
When we discussed our reading almost daily, our conversation centered on the author’s perceptions of love and how we related them to our relationship. The characteristics of how the author viewed loved were very similar to our own views. It felt reassuring to feel love in our relationship as described in the book, and it felt encouraging to continue on our path to understanding love more deeply.
Reading that particular book together created an intimate experience that I still treasure. We talk fondly of our conversations about the first book we read together. I am absolutely sure of the deeper connection I felt with my partner after completing the book and our conversations on it that have never ended. Thoughts still arise over a year later that are centered on what we learned from those pages.

]]>We all know that doing the same old dinner and a movie date is not always what we’re looking for. While getting out and going on to dinner and a movie is sometimes exactly what you need as a couple, there are a million other dates you can do, too! Coming up with those ideas can often be the difficult part! We’ve got your back! And our date idea we’re chatting about today is the idea that keeps on giving!
For this date, you’re going to explore somewhere new in your city. And then you’re going to do it again. And then you’re going to do it again. You’re going to explore as many times as you want until you’re satisfied with your conclusion. What are you concluding? Whatever you would like! Here’s the idea. Your partner and you are going to pick something in your city that you can “tour.”
You can tour your city in a few different ways for this date. You could tour your favorite type of food. For example, maybe you’re trying to find your city’s best cup of coffee. You may be on a quest for the best burger in town. Maybe you enjoy Sunday morning Bloody Mary specials (virgin works, too!!) and are on the hunt for the best one.

You could tour your favorite parks in your area for hanging a hammock together. Maybe you want to find the best nature walk. You could look for the best area for swimming.
Your city also probably has some very unique attractions you’ve never seen before… or even knew existed. Check out Roadside America’s curated collection of novelty attractions, like the World’s Largest Pistachio or the Colossus Penguin at the Coldest Spot in the Nation.
If you can’t think of something else, check out our guide here for seeking out street performers. Street performers are a great source of entertainment, whether it is a musician, a magician, or another form of artistry, you are sure to be impressed by what your city has to offer. You could try to find a different type of street performer each time you go out. Maybe a drummer this week, a magician the next, and a live painter the following.
No matter what you decide to tour, here is the best part. This is the date that keeps on giving! You get to choose how many times to go on this date. Maybe you’re going to check out three places and then rank them in your favorite order. Maybe you decide to make this a neverending date and you want to explore every possibility. Regardless of what you choose, the next time you’re wanting to go out but don’t have any ideas, pull out your tour date card and find your next destination.
You can add fun parts to this date, too. Take a picture together at each spot to add to an album. Pick one of your couple friends and do this with them. Create a special hashtag on your social media to document your tour. Review each spot and share your reviews online or on social. Maybe this is your date
Once you’ve completed your first tour, pick a new one! We’ve found it really is great to have this as a go-to date when the date ideas just aren’t flowing for you. It’s much easier to go to Google and search for something specific like “best hamburger in town” because you’re on your burger tour and pick a place to go.
Let us know what you think! Have you picked your tour? What are you and your partner checking out in your city? Drop us a comment and let our community know your tips! And sign-up for our newsletter to receive advice straight in your inbox.
